China provided valuable for free to over 10 million of its parents-to-be in 2017, according to a recent report from the National Health Commission (NHC).
The number accounted for about 91.7 percent of the group. Meanwhile, those identified with medical conditions were offered targeted counseling and treatment services.
The initiative has further promoted the implementation of the country's relevant medical policies and decreased birth defect rates, the NHC said in a statement.
It is estimated that maternal mortality rate in China has decreased from 19.9 per 100,000 in 2016 to 19.6 per 100,000, and has decreased from 7.5 per 1,000 in 2016 to 6.8 per 1,000 in 2017, the document added.
To guarantee that those from the migrant population have access to healthcare services, the country has been making efforts to establish a fair public health system. Over 87 percent of ,migrant population have benefited from the scheme, according to a spokesperson.
